Program

1. Análisis crítico de los principales marcos conceptuales, enfoques y herramientas disponibles para la evaluación y mapeo de servicios ecosistémicos. Los “para qué” y los “para quienes” de los mapas de servicios ecosistémicos.
2. Indicadores y modelos de SE; la influencia de la estructura y configuración de un paisaje y su escala de análisis sobre las estimaciones de oferta (provisión) de SE y demanda (uso/consumo) de SE validaciones y evaluaciones de calidad.
3. ECOSER: protocolo para la evaluación y mapeo colaborativo de servicios ecosistémicos y vulnerabilidad socio-ecológica. Marco conceptual y principales características.
4. Bases para el modelado espacialmente explícito en ArcGis y en QGis.
5. Ejercicio 1: aplicación de ECOSER. Mapeo de servicios ecosistémicos en casos reales e hipotéticos. Comparación de áreas prioritarias para la conservación en función de distintos criterios: tipo de SE seleccionados, flujo de SE, vulnerabilidad socio-ecológica.
6. Ejercicio 2: modelado en QGis para el desarrollo y ajuste de indicadores.

General objetive

Introduce students in concepts and methods of socio-economic valoration of ecosystem services, with emphasis in decision making application.

Specific objetives

1. Recognize different concepts and paradigms of ecosystem service valuation.
2. Analyze environmental externalities generated by economic agents, and the relationship agricultural production-ecosystem services.
3. Introduce methods of ecosystem service valuation and their application to land-use planning and payment for ecosystem services.

• Concepts and paradigms of ecosystem service valuation.
• Market failures and externalities. Environmental externalities associated to agriculture.
• Methods of economic valuation of ecosystem services and environmental attributes.
• Applications to Payment for Ecosystem Services tools and Land-Use Planning.

Program of activities

In order to promote discussion and work group, short theoretical lectures and reading in small groups will be combined. Also, groups will work on practical applications of selected case studies. Groups will present their analyses and conclusions in plennary sessions.
